CMR RACING UPDATE: Maybury Time Trial, August 23
Cannondale Midwest Racingjen writes "Cannondale Midwest Racing was again well-represented at the sixth MMBA Championship Point Series race of the season. Rafi, Mark Todd, Mike, Bernie, Jen, Mark Hoinka, and Ryan all raced the nine-mile course on a hot and sunny Saturday. Our riders were cheered on by teammates John, Shari, Robin and Steve along with other family, friends and doggies too! Rafi, Mark T. and Bernie all completed their lap in under 40 minutes, and the trail really rode great. This race was a benefit for the Metro South Chapter of the Michigan Mountain Biking Association, and Red Bull sponsored with a big finish-line setup; very cool for photos. The Cannondale tent held prominence right at the start line so we could take in all the action and bring great visibility to our sponsor. Thanks to Jason Edinger for spending the day with us at Maybury!

CMR Team at Stony Creek TT
Cannondale Midwest Racingjen writes "The Cannondale Midwest Racing team was out in full force at the Stony Creek Time Trial on July 27. Eleven CMR racers competed, making for solid team representation across the different racing categories. Great weather, fun single track, and creek crossings near the start and end of the lap were the highlights of this time trial. Cannondale Midwest Racing staked out prime real estate right near the start line for the team tent, thanks to the Wissman crew. That spot offered great visibility for our 11 racers in red and black and a good place to connect up with teammates Mike, Joel and TJ, who came to show support and take pictures out on the course. Notable finishes were Shawn who took 2nd with a time of 59 minutes flat, and Ginger who roped in another 1st place finish! "

DINO Race#4 Muscatatuck- North Vernon
Cannondale Midwest Racingsquirrel writes "Muscatatuck is a favorite trail in the DINO series. The trail builders did away with a steep climb at the beginning of the trail that was steep enough it created traffic jams on the way up. This race is also part of the AMBC point series.

To recap the weather: the good news was that it was not raining at race time. The bad news was that it rained a good bit the night before. The climbs were greasy and put everyone's running skills to the test. The race was slow because the curves were slippery, but there was still a lot of competition to be had. Each class had at least 5 DNF's.

CMR had some pretty good results overall. Cory, despite breaking a chain, came in 35th overall in a large field of Expert riders. We need to get him in cyclo-cross this fall!!! Tom Jones has been busy with work commitments and family life. He pulled off a 39th place overall and 5th in age group for sport. TJ received a 25th place overall in sport and 5th in age group. Chris Hruska rode a great race with a 5th overall in Sport with a 2nd place in the open division. Kody decimated the Junior class for a first place finish by nearly 11 minutes. As we understand it he competed in the events the day before as well (short track and downhill).

The impressive part is where we stand in the overall standings. Cory holds onto 9th overall in expert (1st in age group). Chris holds on to 15th overall in Sport (4th in Open class). TJ is at 10th overall in sport (2nd in age group). Tom Jones is 24th overall in Sport (5th in age group). Kody is 1st place Junior.

As a team we are in 4th overall. All other teams have 5 riders on their roster, CMR has 4. We are all very proud.

We are now gearing up for the New Castle DINO race on July 27. Wish us luck!

DINO at Imagination Glen Portage, IN
Cannondale Midwest Racingsquirrel writes "Dino came back to Imagination Glen after a year off. To some of us it is a challenging course in that it doesn't flow very well. It has a lot of winding switchbacks and log jams. The weather was hot and sunny. This race, as with any race at an extreme end of the state, does not get the rider turn out most DINO races. It’s an opportunity for riders to move up in points in the absence of so many racers. Cory came up with 19th place in the expert class. A really grueling race for him doing three laps of 10 miles each. TJ took 31st overall in sport and 5th in age group. He freely admits that he could find no mojo on this course but the points were good. Kody won the junior class race by over 3 minutes!!! Even though it was not the most desirable race for us it we were still being in the woods on a bike; something that is always good!"

Dino #2 Brown County State Park
Cannondale Midwest Racingsquirrel writes "As promised Brown County offered some pain and suffering for those not in the greatest condition. Most of the Cannondale Midwest Indy crew are north siders so we spend a lot of time on flat trails. Brown County State Park is the flagship Indiana Mountain Bike Trail. It is considered to be one of the best destinations for any Midwest mountain biker. It is a great place to camp or rent a cabin and enjoy the southern Indiana scenery.

Speaking of scenery.... For the onlookers of the race the only thing they saw was a lot of riders maxing out in in the first half mile of the race. The thoughts going through our heads were: "Oh my gosh, I didn't know my heart could beat that fast" or "I'm such an idiot for not doing more hill work outs" or "I will survive, even if I have do this whole race in granny gear."

The trail has some great winding down hill and the famous Aynes Climb which is slow and steady, unless you're Chris Hruska, who loves to climb. This is Chris' trail and his results show it.

Chris Hruska came in 9th overall in Sport and 1st in his class. Cory Swihart Came in 36th overall in Expert and 9th in his age group. Tom Jones was the story of the day. He came to the race after being sick for most of the week and stopped during the race to barf 3 times. Despite being a painful trail Tom rode it anyway and still pulled off 46th overall in sport and 7th in his age group. Kody Hughes dominated the Junior division with a 1st place overall including a nearly 5 minute lead over 2nd place. TJ Keene came in 36th overall in Sport and 10th in his age group. As a team we are ranked 6th overall in points. There are 13 teams on the roster. All of the teams except for 3 have 5 riders riding for points. We are one of the teams with 4 riders listed. A respectable place to be. Tom Jones came to the team to late to be added in the stats.

Brown County is a great venue and despite the intense physical effort it demands during the race it is a versatile trail. If you decide to go there just to enjoy a ride, the climbs are gradual enough for a comfortable ride. The woods are very nice with no highway noise and all sorts of wildlife.

We all enjoy the trail. We look forward to next year."
